His caring and compassion made a difference for thousands of animals during his years of service. Phinney died in 1995 of complications from AIDS. Phinney’s Friends’ mission is to maintain the quality of life of their clients and their companion animals by preserving the human-animal bond. They do this by assisting individuals who are facing medical, financial, and emotional challenges with information and resources to empower them to meet the needs of their beloved companion animals. Phinney’s Friends currently serves individuals living with HIV/ AIDS in the Greater Boston area. Phinney’s is also involved in a pilot program to make services available to low-income elders.

NEARR is a non-profit, 501c(3) charitable, all-volunteer group that re-homes retrievers in the Northeast. They accept purebred and mixed Labrador, Golden, Chesapeake Bay, Flat-Coated, Curly-Coated and Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers. All of their dogs live in NEARR-approved foster homes while awaiting their forever homes. They also serve as a liaison agency for breed-specific retriever rescue groups in the Northeast states.
